Nigel's Nordic Walking - Winchester
What is Nordic Walking?
Nordic Walking is an enhanced walking technique that uses specially designed poles to work your upper body as well as your legs. Nordic Walking improves co-ordination and posture and is almost a full body workout. In fact 90% of muscles, joints and ligaments across the whole body are used compared with regular walking and 46% more calories are burned.
Nordic Walking has become popular with groups of people of all ages who are finding it a great way to reach their health and fitness goals, to gain vitality and get more out of life; this activity can be enjoyed at all levels from low to medium and high intensity.
Nordic Walking is a wonderful activity that is enjoyed outside with the benefits of fresh air through all the seasons; mentally and physically you will feel amazing.
How will Nordic Walking benefit you?
Nordic Walking is an excellent low impact activity which turns a natural movement into an effective exercise and pastime activity. The benefits of Nordic Walking are second to none, helping you to maintain a healthy weight, keep a balanced blood pressure and reduce stress and anxiety.
Nordic Walking combines the simplicity of walking with core and upper body conditioning This gives you a full body workout, which means that you can:
- Burn up to 46% more calories compared to normal walking without poles.
- Engage over 90% of your skeletal muscles
- Release tension in your neck and shoulders.
- Improve your posture and gait.
- Strengthen your back and abdominal muscles.
- Reduce the impact on your joints.
- Improve mental health.
British Nordic Walking is a wonderful and gentle way to gain greater health and mobility and you will feel the rewards immediately.
Nordic Walking will Improve Mental Health
Nordic Walking is the perfect all year round exercise for mental health helping to connect the mind and body. Exposure to natural daylight has been proven to improve sleep and mood quality by supporting your body’s natural circadian rhythm, as well as increasing mood-enhancing neurotransmitters.
Everyone should be aiming to get more natural light exposure; even when the weather is overcast, the level of light outdoors is far higher than light indoors.
Nordic Walking is the perfect way to rebalance the mind and body naturally; whilst walking outside in the fresh air the mind has the space to unravel and sort the internal chaos so that at the end of a session you feel mentally restored and focused.
